Start a permitted custody question with the prison, direct a sheriff-held record request to the Sheriff’s Office, and send a general county request to the county Open Records Officer. The research does not supply public office hours for the prison or sheriff, so confirm availability with the office before visiting.

Choose the Right Record Route
A record may sit with a different agency than the one that answers a custody question. The following routes keep an inquiry tied to the correct custodian.
- For a Butler County booking or arrest-record path, use the home-page records and custody route.
- For a warrant concern, use the sheriff’s official warrant portal and the Most Wanted Fugitives safety information.
- For a court disposition, use UJS Case Search or contact the Clerk of Courts at 724-284-5233.
- For a state-custody location, use the PA DOC Inmate/Parolee Locator; it is not a county booking lookup.
- For federal custody, use the BOP inmate locator; immigration-custody questions follow ICE’s separate locator process.
Municipal Police Records
The county does not maintain municipal police reports. Send a request to the arresting department when the event arose in its jurisdiction.
